Our process
bowling alley Design and Installation process
How to build a bowling alley?
Below, we’ve laid out the basic steps and processes for a bowling alley project and tried to explain what happens when you work with Flying Bowling.

Steps and Info
Step 01
Design Your Bowling Alley
Before starting the design and installation of your bowling alley, the design phase is crucial.
The first step is to design a great bowling alley. Read Flying Bowling's Design Guide to help you. You can also download our PDF drawings and AutoCAD files from our Downloads page.
Once you have some preliminary floor plans, please send them to us for review and comment. We'd like to communicate with you so that we can review the plans together in real time.
Our aim is to make the construction drawings as perfect as possible and to identify any necessary changes at an early stage. Once the drawings are complete, please send us all relevant drawings (architectural, structural, electrical, RCP, elevations, finishes, etc.) for another round of review and comment.
Below are several key elements to consider when designing your bowling alley:
1. Purpose of the Bowling Alley:
• Is this a home bowling alley or a commercial one?
• What is the size of the bowling alley (4 lanes, 8 lanes, 12 lanes, etc.)?
• Are additional amenities required, such as sofas, ball racks, etc.?
2. Space Planning:
• How much space is needed for the bowling alley?
• Consider lane length, facility layout, and aisle space.
• Is on-site measurement required to determine the optimal layout?
3. Style and Theme:
• What is the overall style of the bowling alley? Modern, retro, themed, etc.?
• Do wall colors, floor materials, and lighting effects match the overall design of the bowling alley?
4. Budget and Timeline:
• What is the total budget for design and installation?
• What are the project milestones? Is there a specific completion date required?
5. Equipment Selection:
• What type of bowling equipment is chosen?
• Are features like an automatic scoring system, ball return system, etc., required?
• Do customization options, such as lane colors, ball designs, and shoe designs, meet your expectations?
During the design phase, we recommend working closely with our design team through detailed communication and planning to ensure that your bowling alley design meets your expectations and needs.
Step 02
Determine Colors and Customization Options
After the design is completed, the next step is to determine the colors and customization options for your bowling alley. This not only helps you better plan the project but also ensures that all details are clear when signing the contract.

Note: Please complete your color and customization selections as soon as possible to avoid affecting delivery times.
Step 03
Sign the Contract and Pay the First Deposit
After determining the colors and customization options, please sign the contract and pay the first deposit (30%). Follow these steps:
1. Sign the Contract:
Choose any upgrade items based on your needs, confirm the total price with our team, and then sign the contract.
2. Submit Necessary Information:
After signing the proposal, provide the following information to our team:
• The name of the entity or individual signing the contract with Flying Bowling.
• The current address of the entity.
• The name and email address of the representative signing the agreement.
• The construction site address.
• The names and email addresses of other individuals to be copied (if any).
• The project name.
3. Pay the First Deposit (30%):
Please complete the payment within 15 days after signing the contract. Once the payment is confirmed, we will lock in the price and begin bowling equipment production.
Note: Please complete the above steps pro mptly to avoid affecting delivery times.
Step 04
Delivery Time and Preparation
Order Preparation Time:
Depending on your customization project, the time from order to shipment is only 30-50 days.
Installation Time:
Installation should be done after the HVAC system is operational. Please allocate at least 2-4 weeks in your construction plan for this.
Before ordering the equipment, ensure the following are completed:
1. Sign the proposal.
2. Pay the first deposit (30%).
3. Complete all customization selections.
Note: Every year, some clients miss the installation time and delay the handover of the bowling alley due to not completing the above steps promptly.

• Steps, ramps, railings, floor transitions (redundant reducers, T-lines, thresholds), and toe guards/trim to cover exposed sides of the bowling lanes (if built, located above adjacent flooring).
• Waste disposal areas.
• Dedicated electrical panels for bowling equipment.
• Electricians to connect power to all bowling equipment.
• A 1-inch smooth gray duct (not corrugated) on the ceiling to connect data lines to the score monitors.
• Structural blocking on the ceiling (2' x 8' double-layer 3/4" plywood) to support the score monitors.
• Ongoing maintenance, repairs, adjustments, and cleaning of the bowling equipment.
Note: Every year, some clients miss the installation time and delay the handover of the bowling alley due to not completing the above steps promptly.
Step 05
Pre-Installation Site Visit
We will visit with your general contractor and electrician to confirm the following details:
• The dimensions and location of the bowling alley.
• The method of equipment entry into the building.
• The requirements for the electrician's work.
Note: Please ensure the site visit is scheduled and notify us of your construction progress. Every year, some clients miss important design details due to poor planning.
Step 06
Installation Sequence and Preparation
We will visit with your general contractor and electrician to confirm the following details:
Pre-Installation:
Please ensure the HVAC system is installed and running, maintaining a temperature of 24°C. It is recommended to complete all painting, lighting, and ceiling installations before the bowling alley installation.
Post-Installation:
Floor installation should be done after the bowling alley installation to ensure the smoothness of the transition areas.
Note: Treat the bowling alley as furniture containing electronic devices and precision machinery. It is recommended that the bowling alley installation team is the second-to-last trade to enter the construction site.
Step 07
Choose the Installation Team
If you choose our installation team, please note the following:
Installation Start Date:
Please let the general contractor complete the installation as soon as possible. We need to determine the exact start date after the equipment arrives on-site and the HVAC system is operational and running.
Installation Duration:
The installation time varies based on the project size:
Number of Lanes | Installation Time |
4 lanes | 7-9 days |
8 lanes | 14-16 days |
16 lanes | 28-30 days |
Site Preparation:
• Material Delivery: Before installation begins, please ensure all bowling equipment and parts are delivered to the bowling alley installation area. Please store these materials in a safe place.
• Arrival Time: Our installation team will confirm a suitable time with you to arrive at the construction site for the final pre-installation confirmation.
• Electrician Coordination: Ensure the electrician is prepared with wiring boxes and power connections during installation.
• Preparation Area: Please ensure the construction site is clean, accessible, and provides an area of approximately 100 square meters for preparation.
Note: Treat the bowling alley as furniture containing electronic devices and precision machinery. It is recommended that the bowling alley installation team is the second-to-last trade to enter the construction site.
Step 08
Protective Measures After Installation
Post-Installation Protection:
It is recommended to use plastic covers for the pinsetters and install temporary floor protection products on the bowling lanes and walkways.
Note: Damage to the lane surface may require up to one month to replace and may involve high logistical costs. Please ensure as much protection as possible is done before installation.
Step 09
Inspection and Training
After the installation is completed, we will arrange an inspection and training to complete the following tasks:
• Ensure the equipment is functioning normally and ready for use.
• Complete all debugging and inspection work on the equipment and conduct a final acceptance with the operator to ensure the best possible delivery condition.
• Provide training on the use and maintenance of the bowling equipment to the operator.
Note: Please ensure your venue has long-term and stable staff to perform daily inspections, repairs, and maintenance on the equipment.
