parts of a bowling machine
1. Lane
The lane is the main playing surface and is made of wood or synthetic material with a special surface treatment to improve glide. The lane extends from the starting position to the pin rack area at the end and is 60 feet long.
2. Automatic Pinsetter
The automatic pinsetter is a mechanical device used to reset knocked-down pins after each game. It includes a recovery system to collect and return knocked-down pins and bowling balls after each throw.
3. Control Panel
The control panel is the interface where the operator interacts with the machine and is usually located at one end of the lane. It includes a scoring system, start button, and other control buttons to manage the flow of the game and record scores.
4. Approach
The pitching circle is the area where players stand and throw bowling balls and is located at the front of the lane. For safety and compliance, the pitching area is typically equipped with foul lines and non-slip mats.
5. Lane Conditioner
The lane conditioner is responsible for periodically applying a thin film of oil to the lane to keep the lane consistent and fair. This oil film helps control the friction between the ball and the lane.
6. Scoring System
The scoring system in modern bowling alleys is usually electronic, and the score is automatically recorded and displayed on a screen or monitor. Some high-end systems also offer video playback, game statistics analysis and other features.
